“The biggest issue when I travel is the many limitations on mobility.” Park Byung-min, who appears in Hyundai Motor Group’s ‘Wheelshare’ campaign video, expresses the difficulties many people with limited mobility face when traveling. Although he may wish to travel around freely, it is hard to fully enjoy a trip when using a manual wheelchair that requires assistance to move around.

Helping People with Limited Mobility to Travel Freely
To address this issue and enable people with disabilities to move around more freely, Hyundai Motor Group has instituted its electric kit-sharing service ‘Wheelshare.’ The electric kit connects a power device to a manual wheelchair, combining the lightness of a manual wheelchair and the convenience of an electric one. Hyundai Motor Group offers this kit for free, enabling people with limited mobility to travel more freely.

I had a wonderful time riding ‘Wheelshare’ along the wooden boardwalk on Gyeongpo Beach in Gangneung, South Korea.
The smooth movement provided by the ‘Wheelshare’ kit let me spend a refreshing day cruising among the pine trees.

Rental Stations That Support Barrier-Free Travel
Wheelshare was first launched in Seoul in June 2018 and has since expanded to major regional locations, including Jeju and Gangneung. In July 2025, an additional rental station opened at Incheon International Airport, allowing the service to support even more people with limited mobility. Hyundai Motor Group operates the Wheelshare program across diverse regions as part of its commitment to realizing a barrier-free society. “Barrier-free” refers to the removal of physical and institutional barriers to create a more accessible environment for socially vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities and seniors.

There are kits for users who have difficulty using both hands (tail-type kits), kits that can be operated with one hand (joystick-type kits), foldable electric wheelchairs, and kits that can be operated by caregivers. Additional travel equipment, such as carriers that can be attached to wheelchairs and foot warmers, are also available.
A key advantage of ‘Wheelshare’ is that it can be used not only within South Korea, but also internationally. The rental period is up to 10 days domestically and up to 15 days internationally. After confirming with airlines, the kit can be checked in as luggage or carried on board.

I went on my first family trip since my accident five years ago to Taean Mallipo Beach. I wanted to be able to move around independently, and by chance, I discovered ‘Wheelshare’ and immediately applied for the tail-type kit. The staff explained how to use it and helped me practice driving, so I learned quickly. Thanks to ‘Wheelshare,’ I was able to travel freely and enjoy a real vacation for the first time in a long time.

Expanding to Festival Sites to Ensure Equal Mobility for All
Last year, Wheelshare introduced mobile rental stations, further expanding service access to festival venues. In collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization, Hyundai Motor Group installed mobile rental stations at festivals nationwide, enabling visitors to rent powered wheelchairs directly on site.
In 2025, Hyundai Motor Group also partnered with the city of Seoul to operate a temporary rental station for approximately five months during the Seoul International Garden Show, providing mobility support to hundreds of visitors. In addition, Hyundai Motor Group produced and distributed the “Barrier-Free Preview” video series, which offers region-by-region barrier-free travel information to help people with mobility challenges plan their trips more easily and conveniently.
These ongoing efforts continue today by Hyundai Motor Group, all aimed at creating a travel environment where everyone can move comfortably and without barriers.
