‘HMG Senior Citizen Safe Driving Day’ for Seniors’ Safe Driving
In response to the rising number of traffic accidents involving elderly drivers and the necessity of improving participants’ driving habits, ‘Senior Driving Class’ is placing increased emphasis on its practical training for safer driving. To kick this off, Hyundai Motor Group organized the ‘HMG Senior Citizen Safe Driving Day’ in collaboration with the Hwaseong Traffic Safety Interactive Education Center in 2024.
In this program, senior drivers learn not only basic traffic signals, but also review their individual postures that they use while driving. They are taught how to handle potentially dangerous situations, such as braking on wet roads and defensive driving.
“
This is my first time trying a program like this. I’ve had my license for 50 years, but it’s reassuring to learn how to handle dangerous situations through actual driving practice. Learning things that I’ve never been able to experience while driving in the city made a deep impression on me.
Kim Yong-ho (‘HMG Senior Citizen Safe Driving Day’ Participant)
“
I’ve been driving accident-free for 30 years, so I was feeling pretty confident. However, through both theory and practice, this program pointed out some finicky areas that are easy to overlook, and I ended up learning so much. Opportunities like this are rare for seniors. Thank you for creating such a valuable program to help senior drivers stay safe.

Going Beyond Traffic Safety Education: Building a Safer Society
Senior citizens participating in ‘Senior Driving Class’ not only attend the traffic safety education sessions, but are also given the opportunity to take an active part in traffic safety campaigns. As members of the ‘Traffic Safety Team,’ they monitor traffic accident-prone areas in their communities. The information they gather is submitted to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s ‘Safety Mapping’* app or directly to local governments, allowing for tangible improvements to public traffic safety.

Furthermore, participants can also operate educational booths to promote traffic safety rules and improve traffic safety awareness among local senior citizens and children, spreading the importance of traffic safety far and wide.
As a mobility company, Hyundai Motor Group plans to continue its efforts to promote traffic safety awareness through ‘Senior Driving Class,’ to ensure that not only elderly drivers, but everyone on the road, can travel safely.
