A Place of Hope: Steel House
“My satisfaction level with this steel house is 5 out of 5. The whole process was very satisfactory. Above all, I’m feeling great about starting a new life in my new home.”
These are the words of Mr. Kim Jong-ho, who received the gift of hope for a better life in the form of a 38㎡ steel house. Mr. Kim became the owner of this home through Hyundai BNG Steel’s flagship CSR activity, ‘A Place of Hope: Steel House.’
Expanding from ‘BNG’s Place of Hope’ to ‘A Place of Hope: Steel House’
The ‘A Place of Hope: Steel House’ initiative donates homes to marginalized families or improves outdated living environments, to provide a sustainable foundation for a better life. It is a ‘home-sharing’ initiative for the underprivileged, which traces its beginnings back to 2017.
At the time, ‘BNG’s Place of Hope’ was an initiative that provided improved housing for 9 households through the donation of one library building and two housing units. In 2019, the initiative expanded into ‘A Place of Hope: Steel House,’ providing steel houses to lower-income families and improving living conditions through home improvement tasks such as wallpapering, roof renovations, and replacing boilers.
Creating A Cultural Shelter for Local Communities Through Library Donations
The ‘A Place of Hope: Steel House’ initiative has provided hope not only for underprivileged families, but also created spaces for local communities to come together. A notable example is the ‘Yongji Lake Community Library’ in Changwon City. Located in Yongji Lake Park, this library is a type of ‘Steel House’ built by Hyundai BNG Steel as part of its campaign for cultural and artistic revitalization. It is now beloved by locals as a relaxing shelter where they can kick back and enjoy the view of the lake.
Collaboration with Changwon City, Recognition as a Role Model for Regional Community Outreach Projects
From selection of beneficiary families to implementation, the smooth operation of the ‘A Place of Hope: Steel House’ initiative is made possible through close collaboration with the Changwon Municipal Government and the Masan Social Welfare Center. Hyundai BNG Steel sets the criteria for selecting beneficiaries, conducts housing inspections, provides essential supplies, and organizes volunteers. Changwon City Hall recommends beneficiaries and facilitates approval permits. Lastly, the Masan General Welfare Center manages donations and follows up with beneficiaries.
The initiative has established a positive model for community outreach projects through collaboration and division of labor among corporations, local governments, and regional welfare organizations. The hard work and cooperation that have gone into ‘A Place of Hope: Steel House’ have allowed it to be recognized as a role model for local community outreach projects.
Hyundai BNG Steel plans to continue the ‘A Place of Hope: Steel House’ initiative in Changwon, leading the way to creating a better world.
