Economics Classes for Future Dreamers
“The topic for today’s economics class is, ‘Creating My Own Corporation and Trading Games.’”
So the class began, as the 39 children taking it look on with excitement. Thirteen employees of Hyundai Motor Securities made small groups with the children to provide explanations tailored to their level, sparking their interest in the subject.
‘Economics Classes for Future Dreamers’ is a CSR activity planned by Hyundai Motor Securities in July 2024 to make use of their strengths as a financial firm, as part of their newly established CSR strategy, focusing on three areas: ‘Future Generations,’ ‘Protection,’ and ‘Community.’ Once the new CSR strategy was established, the first session of the program took place in partnership with the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation, targeting 39 children from childcare facilities in Seoul.
Making Economics Fun and Easy
‘Economics Classes for Future Dreamers’ that began that day lasted about 6 hours total, with the theme of ‘Creating My Own Corporation and Trading Games.’ The first section covered distribution and pricing. The children learned how the goods they use and consume reach them, experiencing the distribution process through a group competition game. Though we often think of these types of economic concepts as complicated and only suited to adults, the employees met the children at their own level to explain ideas in a way that made them easy and fun to understand, receiving a very positive response.
Experiencing the Life of a CEO
In the second and third sections, the children learned about theoretical concepts such as distribution, international trade, and commerce, while also taking part in activities such as simulated stock investing. While learning about distribution costs through games and having fun with trade games and import-export quizzes, the children were able to build their financial knowledge and develop the ability to think economically. Finally, the children imagined themselves as the CEOs of a flying car company and wrote about it under the theme of ‘Creating My Own Corporation’ before receiving a completion certificate for the ‘Economics Classes for Future Dreamers.’
“
I pretended to make my own company as a CEO and did mock investing. I also took quizzes, which helped me understand stocks more easily.

Collecting Employee Donations Through the ‘Sharing From the Heart Account’
‘Economics Classes for Future Dreamers’ finished with enthusiastic responses from the children and active support from Hyundai Motor Securities employees; the program was actually funded through employee donations, making it an even more meaningful initiative. Donations from employees were collected into the ‘Sharing from the Heart Account’ and matched 1:1 with company donations to create the fund. Hyundai Motor Securities provides community outreach mileage to employees who participate in these types of initiatives, and the accumulated mileage is used as bonus points when selecting outstanding organizations or employees, encouraging everyone to give back.
This system, which was first implemented in 2022, has seen steady participation, with 608 employees, more than half of the workforce, having accumulated miles as of December 2024.
“
In line with the newly established CSR strategy of Hyundai Motor Securities, ‘Economics Classes for Future Dreamers’ initiative will continue as part of the company’s vision of ‘Creating Sustainable Change Together,’ fulfilling our role in South Korean society.
