“Look, it's a garbage island. Where did all that trash in the ocean come from?”

Opened in 2022, ‘Kids Marine Park’ is the first children’s marine environmental educational facility in the Seoul metropolitan area, created by Hyundai Motor Group to raise environmental awareness among future generations and contribute to a cleaner marine environment. At ‘Kids Marine Park’, children can have fun directly engaging with interactive exhibits and explore solutions to a number of environmental issues such as microplastic pollution, resource circulation, and biodiversity.

Children develop an awareness of the importance of protecting our oceans, one of humanity’s greatest shared assets, through their experiences at ‘Kids Marine Park’. They can board a pretend yacht and encounter a garbage island on the screen, or observe protected marine life while using real sand to create paths for water to flow through. There is also an interactive exhibit where they can roll a ball through a cylinder to visually see how discarded trash flows into the ocean.

In addition to the exhibits, professional guides are on site to provide friendly and easy-to-understand explanations. All visited to ‘Kids Marine Park’ can attend guided tours at three scheduled times throughout the day.

Out of the 10 interactive exhibits, the most popular with children is the ‘Fly, Green Expedition’ exhibit, where children board futuristic eco-friendly transportation to collect ocean trash. Children sit in the cockpit of the helicopter-shaped ride, using video game-like controls to remove trash from the world on the screen in front of them. Through this experience, they learn about the importance of environmental protection while also naturally discovering more about Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and hydrogen energy, both being developed by Hyundai Motor Group.

‘Kids Marine Park’ is an educational facility that helps children understand the ocean, the largest ecosystem on Earth and a treasure trove of abundant resources, in an easy and fun way. Since the ocean and its plentiful resources will serve as the foundation for future generations, the value in providing education to children that meets them on their own level is significant.

Learning in a fun and hands-on way is highly preferred by both parents and children. Since its opening in 2022, approximately 30,000 visitors have been to ‘Kids Marine Park’ in the past two years. ‘Kids Marine Park’ made through collaboration between Hyundai Motor Group, the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, and the Korea Ocean Foundation, will continue to play an important role in fostering future generations’ interest in marine ecosystems. The park is open to children aged 6 to 10, accompanied by their guardians.
